Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent Rangers transfer latest as Ibrox hero delivers contract verdict

Rangers hero Barry Ferguson reckons Alfredo Morelos will remain at Ibrox - but he is less confident about keeping Ryan Kent.

The key Light Blues duo have both entered the final 12 months of their current contracts and are yet to come to any agreement on extended terms. The summer transfer window would be the best time to cash in on the duo should they decide against an extended stay in Glasgow. Joe Aribo was in a similar situation before completing a move to the English Premier League with Southampton last week with the Ibrox men netting a 'significant, undisclosed fee'.

The fear is both players could follow a similar path with Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirming talks have kicked off in a bid to retain the services of the duo. They have been key players over the years for Rangers and the Dutchman will be desperate to keep them onboard as he bids to recapture the Premiership title from Celtic and reach the Champions League group stages - with two rounds of qualifying to negotiate in order to reach the lucrative tournament proper.

Fergie is confident Morelos will stick around but he is not so sure about Kent and reckons he, like Aribo, would like to go and test himself in the EPL. Leeds United have been linked with the former Liverpool man on numerous occasions with the Ibrox hero believing talks between the duo and the boss will be taking place to get a feel for what will happen.

He told Go Radio: "Those three players that you mentioned are going into the last year of their contract. I listened to Gio and he said he had a sit down with Joe Aribo and it was clear that he wanted to go and play Premier League football.

"I'm disappointed to lose a player of that quality because I think Aribo, season on season, has got better and better. They signed him for £300,000 four years ago, to get £6m up front in the last year of his deal plus £4m in add-ons is good business.

"He'll be having the same conversations with Kent and Morelos, getting an idea on whether they want to commit. If they don't, Rangers will do business with both of them. I've got a feeling Morelos will stay, Kent I'm unsure.

"The Leeds thing keeps popping up every now and then and I'm sure he wants to go back down and try himself in the Premier League. Rangers would love to keep both, but money talks and every player has a price on their head. If that price is met, Rangers will do business.

"During pre-season Gio will be sitting down and getting a vibe, whether they want to stay or whether they want to go. Over the next few weeks, you'll start to get news coming out about whether these two players will commit."
