He thanked everyone associated with the club and paid tribute to owner Kenny Bruce for "bringing me on this journey that he so confidently described to me".

The 37-year-old may be hanging up his boots but he won't be leaving Inver Park as he is relishing "inspiring the next generation of Larne players" as he takes up the role of head coach of the club's Under-16 team.

"I am very proud to be part of the Larne family and am immensely proud to be part of Larne FC history forever," Watson tweeted.

"I will always be indebted to Kenny Bruce for bringing me on this journey that he so confidently described to me in the first meeting I had with him.

"Thank you to Tiernan, the management team and everyone at the club for their support and guidance over the last four years.

"I look forward to inspiring the next generation of Larne players when I take up the U16 role - I can't wait to get started.

"I can't thank the Larne supporters enough, they have treated me like their family from day one.You all deserve this success more than anyone and it's only the start of things to come.

"I will miss walking out with the lads to represent Larne FC, representing the very fabric of the club which has gone through thick and thin, and is the reason why this success is possible.

"You are the heartbeat of a now thriving community that is proud to be part of the RAWA.

"It has been an absolute pleasure, thank you!"
