Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows admitted he let himself down after he was involved in a bust up with Tony Watt.
The Fir Park supremo was pictured exchanging angry words with the former Steelmen striker who came back to haunt his old club with his first goal for Dundee United.
He celebrated by sticking his fingers in his ears which angered the travelling support - and Burrows admitted he got “over emotional” with his reaction.
Watt was subbed in the final minute of the 2-0 victory and the pair confronted each other with Burrows at the mouth of the Tannadice tunnel.
Motherwell fans questioned the incident on social media. One wrote: "I need to know what ent on with Burrows who obviously went out his way to have a go at Watt."
Another said: "Wold love to know what Burrows and Watt were 'discussing' as Watt walked off the pitch. Maybe asking him if he kisses every badge?"
But Burrows responded, saying: “Ach, I didn’t give him abuse at all mate, it was a complete storm in a teacup and we shook hands after the game.
“Tony and I have always got on very well. I let myself down a wee bit and should’ve acted a better than I did, but was a bit (over) emotional about some things.”
Watt moved to Motherwell’s Scottish Premiership rivals after initially signing a pre-contract with the Taysiders.
The 28-year-old spent two years in Lanarkshire and bagged 10 goals this season before his move to Tannadice.
