Art lovers are invited to view the world through a microscopic viewpoint during "Elevated Marblesque", which is running at SAC Gallery until Aug 19.
On display are the latest series of over 20 landscape paintings by Japanese artist Akira Ishiguro that have never been exhibited elsewhere before. With a passion for geology, he develops a unique perspective of the world. His eyes wander through the various layers of the earth, and he "observes" from what we call a "microscopic perspective".
The exhibition will take viewers to contemplate the chemical, physical and biological components of the surrounding atmosphere before discussing the landscape in a way that we are familiar with.
The artist elevates the surface of the canvas into two layers to stretch and create a sense of transforming layers of rock for the viewers. This creates a denser, closer connection to their eyes, revealing the topography, hills, and height of the world.
He proposed the idea that the earth's soil, rocks and mineral elements in the future will have a mixture influenced by human behaviour since the "Great Acceleration" era starting in 1950.
This has greatly altered the patterns of rocks such as mineral veins on soft rocks, from the soft rocks of the present era. He then raises questions about the quality of water, and air, and how it will affect the construction of nature in the future.
He also questions how people in the future will imagine the landscapes of the current world, as they look down to the microscopic level of the mixture of rocks and mineral elements.
SAC Gallery is on Sukhumvit 39 and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 6pm.
