Airport hack that ensures your suitcase is the first off the plane

While going on holiday can be the perfect opportunity for some well-deserved relaxation, the airport security process is a different story.

Leaving your luggage in the hands of security can be stressful for many which is made all the worse when it comes to waiting for baggage claims to ensure your suitcase made it through safely. Getting your suitcase off the carousel as quickly as possible also helps to ensure that you can rush to your hotel and enjoy the start of your holiday.

Fortunately, there are some tricks holidaymakers can make use of to ensure they get their suitcases and leave the airport as soon as possible. One neat trick that may surprise many is arriving as late as possible to the check-in-desk, the Mirror reports.

By checking in last, your bag should be the first off the plane since it was the last loaded, Escape.com shared. Thomas Lo Sciuto, a ramp worker and gate agent at a regional airport in the US, told Quora: "Bags will always be loaded front to back on the bag carts so if you check in last your bags will be in the last bag cart."

However, this strategy isn't for everyone and has been deemed "high-risk", especially for those who like to be prepared in advance before boarding their plane. Another suggestion is to "gate-check" your bag by handing it over at check-in to put in the cargo hold which may result in the suitcase being left beside the access door for a quick unloading.

The downside to this trick though is that it can result in additional security checks for your luggage and sometimes carries extra charges. Some airlines allow passengers to pay extra to ensure their luggage is delivered first and can sometimes be accessed via a loyalty scheme.

One final trick that could work for some is requesting a 'fragile' sticker to be placed on your luggage. This is because it could affect the order your suitcase is packed onto the plane as fragile baggage is generally placed on the plane last.
