New boss Alex Neil made three changes as he took charge of Sunderland for the first time this afternoon.
The head coach, whose appointment was confirmed last night, was looking to stop the rot after Sunderland's run of three successive defeats prior to his arrival.
He brought Bailey Wright, Carl Winchester, and Dan Neil into the side at Plough Lane, with Danny Batth, Leon Dajaku, and Corry Evans dropping out following the midweek reverse at Cheltenham Town.

Wright - who was returning from a calf injury - was a direct replacement for Batth in central defence, while Winchester was expected to play wide on the right in place of Dajaku and Neil came in for Evans in central midfield.
Dajaku and Evans were included amongst the subs but Batth was left out entirely, presumably due to injury.
AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Robinson made five changes to the side that lost at home to League One leaders Rotherham United on Tuesday night.
Will Nightingale, Paul Osew, Luke McCormick, Lee Brown, and Ethan Chislett came into the side, with Daniel Csoka, Cheye Alexander, Nesta Guinness-Walker, Anthony Hartigan, and Paul Kalambayi, making way.
