Adrian Lester reveals ‘conversations’ over return of BBC crime drama Hustle

Adrian Lester has said he has had ‘conversations’ about the return of Hustle (Matt Crossick/PA) - (PA Wire)

Actor Adrian Lester has revealed he has had “conversations” about the return of BBC crime drama series Hustle, which he starred in.

The 57-year-old, who played conman Michael Stone in the series, said he would be keen to return to the role while speaking on BBC Breakfast.

Lester said: “I was much younger then, it finished 20 years ago.

Lester was speaking ahead of appearing in Cyrano De Bergerac (Ian West/PA) (PA Archive)

“Just between us, if you don’t tell anyone, there’s always conversations about it possibly coming back.

“It’s something that’s been really well loved by the public, it was a great success for BBC and for Kudos, the producers, and we are ever hopeful that in some way, shape, or form, it might come back on our screens.”

The series followed a group of con artists as they carried out “long cons”, an extended form of fraud that requires large commitment, and also featured Robert Glenister, Matt Di Angelo and Robert Vaughn.

Lester was speaking after he was announced to play the titular character in the West End production of Cyrano De Bergerac at the Noel Coward Theatre from June 13.

The Birmingham-born star added: “It’s probably the most romantic story, love story, ever written.

“Cyrano has got a big nose, he’s very sensitive about it, he’s in love with Roxane, Roxane is in love with Cyrano’s friend.

“Roxane wants the friend to write to her, and he can’t, because he’s too shy, so Cyrano writes to Roxane on his friend’s behalf, and that’s the triangle.”

The Olivier Award-winning actor is also known for his roles in series such as Undercover, Trigger Point and Riviera, as well as films including The Day After Tomorrow, Primary Colours and Mary Queen Of Scots.

He is also also known for his stage roles which include Othello, Henry V and Ira Aldridge in Red Velvet.
