Acura Will Sell Its First Model Ever In Japan

THE

  • Honda and Acura will begin exporting two American-made models to Japan.
  • The Acura Integra Type S and Honda Passport TrailSport Elite go on sale in Japan in the second half of 2026.
  • US President Donald Trump’s trade deal opened the foreign country to US car imports.

The trade deal US President Donald Trump signed with Japan last year opened the country to American car imports. Two models Japanese consumers will soon see in showrooms come from Honda.

Starting in the second half of this year, the automaker will export the American-made Acura Integra Type S and Honda Passport TrailSport Elite to its domestic market. Both made appearances at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year.

This will be the first time Honda sells an Acura model in Japan, celebrating its 40th anniversary. The automaker launched the brand in 1986 primarily for the Canadian and American markets, and it builds the Integra and the car’s K20C engine in Ohio.

Honda builds the Passport, and the model’s 3.5-liter V6 engine, in Alabama. The TrailSport Elite trim is the second-highest grade available, costing nearly $55,000 to start.

"From the onset, Honda has believed in our American manufacturing talent, and we are proud to export quality vehicles built by our associates in Alabama to Honda customers in Japan," said Jun Jayaraman, Honda of America’s senior vice president of the Manufacturing Management Center.

Acura sold 20,178 Integras in the US in 2025, down 17.3 percent year-over-year. Honda sold 55,231 Passports last year, up 70.4 percent, but the crossover didn’t go on sale until early February.

Motor1’s Take: While Trump’s trade deal has opened the Japanese market to US-made cars, we doubt it will result in significant sales. Honda and Acura are exporting just two trims—not complete model lines—but maybe this is just the start.
