With the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics imminent, the buzz is high in the Dolomites. Italy’s breathtaking UNESCO Dolomite mountains will take centre stage in the first Winter Olympics staged in Europe for 20 years. It’s the second time the historic town of Cortina d’Ampezzo will host the games, exactly 70 years after it first hosted in 1956.
The Milano-Cortina games will take place across several venues in the northeast of Italy. These include Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the ski resorts of Bormio and Livigno in the Valtellina, Predazzo and Tesero in the Val di Fiemme, and Anterselva/Antholz in Süd-Tyrol. Verona, famed for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, will host a spectacular closing ceremony in the city’s historic Arena di Verona, a roman amphitheatre built around 30AD.
