A Place In The Sun host cringes at 'hard work' couple's low offer on property

A Place in the Sun presenter Lee Juggurnauth was left cringing after one couple put in an offer so low fans dubbed it as 'mean'.

On Wednesday's instalment of the Channel 4 property show, Lee was joined by Julie and Peter who enlisted his help to find their dream holiday home in South West France. The couple had a budget of £200,000 and were on the look out for a two-bedroom detached property with traditional French features.

While Julie and Peter were impressed with majority of Lee's options, it was the fifth and final holiday home that really won the couple over. The three-bedroom home in Degagnac was a converted old school building with a huge garden and on sale for £185,000.

The pair loved the house including all the traditional French character pieces they were looking for, as well as coming in tow with a separate building entirely for guests. Julie told Lee: "You've pulled this one out of the bag".

Peter said it was "perfect", and Julie's only issue was there was nowhere for guests to shower. Lee said there was room to add a shower to the separate en-suite, which would cost an estimated £5,000.

After reviewing their options, Julie and Peter decided to put an offer in for the property and despite the fact the asking price was within their budget - they hit the homeowner with a seriously low-ball over of £150,000.

Property expert Lee had told them there would be room for some negotiation, but even he was left cringing when he heard their offer of £150,000.

The presenter said: "That is significantly lower than the asking price, what's the reason for that?" Julie said: "We need to put in a shower room downstairs for the second bedroom, convert the annexe garage doors into proper windows and doors and we would like to put a swimming pool in."

Their offer was rejected, leaving Julie and Peter still to find their perfect holiday home.

Viewers took to Twitter as the show aired to complain about the 'miserable' couple, and their insulting offer for their chosen property. One said: "They wanted something for nothing! I would not sell to them now regardless of any amount offered!"

Speaking of their offer, another said: "That is quite the stunt to pull", someone else called it a "cheeky move" and another added it was a "mean offer" for what they would be buying.

Someone else penned: "France just had a lucky escape - most miserable couple ever," while another echoed: "The poor presenter - it's like flogging a dead horse. The woman's quite rude at times too."

"@LeeJuggurnauth just watched your search in the Dordogne on “A Place in the Sun”. We felt for you; it was like pulling teeth having to deal with that couple!," penned another.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
