A$AP Rocky leaves it up to style queen Rihanna to dress their children.
The power couple are known for their head-turning, trend-setting fashion choices, but these days the 36-year-old rapper - who received the Cultural Innovator prize at The Fashion Awards in London this week for creating viral fashion moments - is embracing a more toned-down "dad style" and has left it up to his partner, also 36, to dress RZA, two, and 15-month-old Riot.
Asked who oversees the boys' style, Rocky told PEOPLE: “That’s their mother by herself.
“I don’t have any contribution to when my sons get dressed.
“Sometimes she dresses them like me with kilts and all of that, but that's all their mom, man. She got good style and taste.”
The 'Fashion Killa' rapper describes his current style as "quiet luxury".
He said: “If I could define my dad style, I would say it’s way more focused. Prior to that, it was really just like absurd outfits, just mismatching everything for the sake of it. But now I think it’s a bit more quiet luxury.”
Rocky hopes his and Fenty brand founder Rihanna’s sons go on to have the same "originality and confidence" as he does.
He said: “I hope they take away my originality and confidence.
“It’s in their blood and their genes, no pun intended.”
Rocky was speaking at the Footwear News Achievement Awards 2024 in New York City after being honoured with the prize for Collaboration of the Year for his work with sporty fashion brand Puma.
And while discussing his work with Puma previously, he admitted his style is an “acquired taste”.
Explaining his approach to the creative process, he said: "My rule is this: if it doesn’t personally satisfy me or feed me or if it isn’t up to my standards personally, then I won’t sell it."
He added: "I have an acquired taste, so I don’t expect all people to get it. It’s a niche demographic of people who live life like that."
