And now we somehow know that Nicola Peltz Beckham “survives” on a reported $1 million monthly allowance from her billionaire father.
In showbiz, there’s a name for this — the Streisand effect. Back in 2003, the Hollywood legend tried her best to remove an aerial photo of her Malibu home from the internet, and you can guess exactly what happened next. Since then, it’s been standard practice for public relations teams to understand that if you want something to go away, trying to censor it is the worst possible move.
Up until recently, Brooklyn has largely been the butt of internet jokes. He’s still trying to find his footing in his career — and no judgment here, finding a calling can be genuinely hard. Some people find their passion in their early 40s; others, like Brooklyn’s father Sir David, are already playing in the FIFA World Cup at 23. There’s no real timeline. But owing to the Beckhams’ reported $680 million family wealth, Brooklyn has had the agony and ecstasy of trying to turn his hobbies into a career in full view of the public. It’s all been amusing to watch, and the memes have turned what is ultimately a sad family story into something lighter for spectators. But while the Beckhams’ wealth is very visible and largely assumed because of their celebrity status, far fewer people realize just how wealthy Nicola’s family, the Peltzes, actually are.
Nicola’s father, Nelson Peltz, is one of the few thousand people on Earth with a net worth exceeding $1 billion. He’s a longtime Republican donor and a third-generation heir to a family fortune that began in the 19th century with frozen food sales in New York. In more recent years, the family has unsuccessfully tried to pivot into the entertainment industry. Nelson recently failed in an attempt to secure a seat on Disney’s board, and Nicola directed and starred in a film in which she played a salt-of-the-earth sex worker doing whatever it takes to make ends meet.
The film was so inconsequential that it managed to receive just two reviews on Rotten Tomatoes — both negative. Still, according to the Daily Mail, the couple isn’t exactly struggling. There is, however, a notable difference in how their parents approach financial support. Reportedly, the Beckhams had been giving Brooklyn money described as “not insane,” while Nicola has been receiving around $1 million a month, with the Peltz patriarch allegedly pressuring the Beckhams to match that figure. Alongside their other issues, that disparity has reportedly become a major crack in their marriage.
But, as ever, the rich seem to be doing just fine. Nelson Peltz will be okay. Brooklyn and Nicola will be okay too — they just posted a carousel on Instagram from their $16 million Hollywood home.
The one thing that reportedly still has the Beckhams concerned is just how ironclad the prenuptial agreement between Brooklyn and Nicola really is behind the scenes.
