A 9-year-old boy from rural Edmond, Oklahoma, fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a pet octopus named Terrance, thanks to the support of his family. The boy's fascination with marine biology led his father, a 36-year-old dentist, to research and eventually adopt a California two-spot octopus from a local aquarium store.
The family documented Terrance's journey on TikTok, attracting a large following as the octopus surprised them by laying eggs. To their amazement, the eggs hatched, giving birth to tiny octopus babies with endearing names like Rocket Larry and Swim Shady.
The father-son duo invested time and effort into creating a suitable habitat for Terrance, including a saltwater tank and water cycling system. The entire family, including the younger son and mother, actively participated in caring for the cephalopod.
Despite the challenges of owning such a unique pet, the family found the experience rewarding. They emphasized the valuable lessons learned about responsibility, wildlife, and the importance of embracing one's passions.
As Terrance continues to thrive months after laying her eggs, the family remains grateful for the joy and knowledge brought by their not-so-tiny octopus companion.
