A Wyoming resident says mystery orbs over Cody returned in late September after disappearing for several months. Jezriah Krubeck reported seeing glowing lights above Cedar Mountain, west of Cody, where he previously watched nearly two dozen lights from his porch between November and February.
The news came after Krubeck said the lights rose over the mountain, moved along the ridge and sometimes appeared to approach one another. He described them as 'just like orbs floating up over the mountain.'
'They would float up and move toward each other,' Krubeck said.
The available reporting does not establish what the lights were. Their reported movements and possible explanations remain based largely on witness accounts and video footage.
Mystery Orbs Over Cody Appeared to Change Direction
Krubeck said he initially looked for conventional explanations rather than assuming the lights were unidentified craft. He said stars, meteors and other natural events did not appear to explain what he saw.
He also said satellite trackers he checked did not appear to match the lights.
'They would interact with each other,' Krubeck said. 'I don't think it was a naturally occurring phenomenon in the way that they moved.'
Krubeck said some lights appeared to stop or change direction. He also claimed they sometimes appeared to stop after he pointed a small laser towards them. His account does not establish that the laser caused any response.
The report does not establish that Krubeck aimed the laser at an aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration warns that intentionally aiming a laser at an aircraft is illegal and poses a serious safety risk.
Krubeck also said he could not see the flashing lights he associated with conventional aircraft. He reported that ordinary aircraft were sometimes visible nearby while the lights were present and said their numbers appeared to increase during some sightings.
A second witness, Casey Edwards, reported seeing lights near Medicine Wheel in the Bighorn Mountains on 23 September. Edwards, a gold miner and tattoo artist, said one light moved before appearing to stop.
'It almost, like, followed me down the road,' Edwards said. He later counted five or six lights near his camp.
Edwards initially considered drones used by ranchers or hunters. He said the lights remained visible for about two-and-a-half to three hours, longer than he expected from small drones.
After reviewing enhanced footage, Edwards remained uncertain about what he had recorded. 'I just want to know what the hell it is,' he said.
MUFON Director Says One Cody Video Remains Unexplained
Richard Beckwith, the Mutual UFO Network's Wyoming state director, reviewed videos recorded by Krubeck and Edwards.
Beckwith said Edwards' footage showed no unusual movement beyond camera shake. He suggested a distant aircraft as one possible explanation but said he lacked enough information to identify the light conclusively.
Krubeck's footage left Beckwith less certain. 'It clearly depicts several disparate objects, all glowing white orbs, moving in different directions,' Beckwith said.
Beckwith said he thought conventional aircraft were unlikely because he could not see navigation beacons in the footage. That remained his interpretation of the video rather than an official determination of what the objects were.
He also said he was inclined to discount commercial drones because of the lighting he observed. Beckwith separately discounted balloons and Chinese lanterns based on the objects' apparent movement.
'Right now, I have no explanation for the objects recorded in the video,' Beckwith said.
He also addressed speculation that conventional aircraft seen nearby might have been pursuing the lights, but cautioned against drawing that conclusion. 'But again, that is just speculation,' he said.
Mystery Orbs Join Hundreds of Wyoming UFO Reports
The National UFO Reporting Center maintains a public database containing hundreds of submissions from Wyoming. The records are witness reports and do not independently establish the cause of any sighting.
Wyoming officials have also discussed separate reports of drone-like objects in Sweetwater County. Then-Sweetwater County Sheriff John Grossnickle previously took US Rep. Harriet Hageman to observe reported objects near the Red Desert and Jim Bridger Power Plant.
Grossnickle retired on 31 May 2026. Rich Fischer was appointed interim Sweetwater County sheriff the following month.
Jason Mower, the sheriff's office public affairs director, previously described the recurring reports as increasingly routine. 'It's like the new normal,' Mower said.
The Cody sightings have also prompted discussion online. Some Reddit users suggested Starlink satellite flares as one possible explanation, while others called for precise timing and daytime comparison footage. Those suggestions remain unverified and do not establish what Krubeck recorded.
