As a parent, I know there's more to consider than simply picking the cutest design. The best ones need to be warm without being overly bulky, easy to get on and off a wriggly child and practical enough for everyday life. I looked for features such as waterproof or showerproof fabrics, cosy linings, secure hoods, fold-over hands and feet, and clever zips or fastenings that make nappy changes and dressing that little bit easier. Machine-washable materials are a big bonus, too – particularly when mud, snacks and general toddler mess are involved.
