Many older Americans are walking out of grocery stores lately, wondering how a few basic items suddenly cost so much more than expected. Even though overall inflation has cooled compared to previous years, grocery prices remain painfully high for seniors living on fixed incomes. The pressure is especially intense before summer, when electricity bills rise, travel expenses increase, and seasonal food prices begin shifting upward. According to an AARP survey released this year, more than 4 in 10 adults over 50 say grocery costs are now more than they can comfortably afford.
