4 keys for Bears offense vs. Packers in Week 2

The Chicago Bears (1-0) will battle the Green Bay Packers (0-1) on Sunday Night Football, where Chicago will be looking to finally turn the tide in this rivalry.

Chicago is coming off an upset win over the San Francisco 49ers (0-1) while Green Bay is nursing a brutal loss to the Minnesota Vikings (1-0). But that doesn’t change the fact that no one expects the Bears to manage their second consecutive upset of the 2022 season, especially against their kryptonite in the Packers.

As the Bears prepare to face the Packers, here’s what Chicago’s offense needs to do to succeed against the Green Bay defense in Week 2.

1
Get off to a fast start

If the Bears stand any chance in this game, they’re going to need to get off to a fast start against the Packers. Which is something they weren’t able to do in their season opener against the 49ers. Chicago’s offense was abysmal in the first half before making the proper adjustments that allowed them to mount a comeback. But when facing Aaron Rodgers, you know you’re going to have to score points. The Bears offense can’t afford another poor first-half showing and hope the Packers make self-inflicted mistakes to keep Chicago in it.

Win the battle at the line of scrimmage

Chicago will face another tough defensive front when they face the Packers at Lambeau Field. In the season opener, the offensive line struggled to protect Justin Fields or get the run game going against a dominant 49ers front. It’ll be a similar test for this Bears offensive line, which is going to need to win the battle at the line of scrimmage if they hope to find success against this Packers defense.

3
Let Justin Fields make plays

Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a poor first-half showing, Fields was one of the big reasons for Chicago’s second-half comeback against the 49ers in Week 1. He was able to extend plays with his legs and threw some absolute dimes in the pouring rain. Much like Aaron Rodgers has bested the Bears with some impressive plays, this could be a similar situation to last week where Chicago is going to need Fields to do some things on his own as they face another dominant defense.

4
Get the run game going

Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears need to establish a balanced offensive attack against the Packers, including getting David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert going in the run game. Chicago struggled to mount much of a run game against the 49ers — totaling just 99 yards, including 28 yards from Fields alone. Luke Getsy will want to find success against his former team, and he has a chance to establish a one-two punch with Montgomery and Herbert in Week 2.
