The Indianapolis Colts selected South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush with the No. 138 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
Adding more depth and upside to the cornerback position, Rush fits the mold of an extremely athletic cornerback who brings size, length and ball skills to the secondary.
Rush brings high character and leadership along with him from Columbia, SC. Measuring in at 6-foot-1 and 198 pounds with 33 3/8-inch arms, Rush posted a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash with a 1.49 10-yard split. He also registered a 35-inch vertical and 10-foot-1-inch broad jump.
A fifth-year senior and two-year starter for the Gamecocks, Rush recorded 18 passes defended and three interceptions in 21 starts.
A positive that Rush will bring is his contributions on special teams. As a fifth-round pick, that will be crucial in making the roster.
There are questions about his play strength against the run but considering how much the Colts covet that aspect of the game in cornerbacks, they must feel comfortable in the ability to get that out of him.
With Julius Brents highlighting the picks on Day 2, Rush will likely compete for a depth role in the secondary while contributing on special teams during his rookie season.
