16-year-old boy in hospital after Nottingham stabbing

A 16-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Nottingham. The incident happened in Beckley Road in Broxtowe, Aspley at around 5pm on Sunday, May 14.

The teenager's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police said. A cordon was put in place in Coleby Road between Beckley Road and Fenwick Road.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Gregg, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We were alerted to a report of a 16-year-old boy being stabbed in Beckley Road at around 5pm, yesterday (Sunday 14 May). Officers were quickly on scene and the boy was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“We are continuing to trawl CCTV in the area and speak with witnesses – but are asking anyone who may have been around the Beckley Road and Coleby Road area yesterday afternoon to get in touch with us. I would like to make clear that we do not believe there to be a wider risk to the public.”

Lindsey Davis, 40, who lives round the from the incident, said: "I got back just after five and police and crowds of people were everywhere. There hasn't been much crime here recently, it's been relatively boring to be fair.

Speaking before police confirmed the incident had been a stabbing, she added: "I'd be really shocked if it was something like a stabbing. I'd be very worried if that was the new trend. It used to be joyriding but if the new one was stabbing I'd be off."

Janice Fewkes, who lives nearby, recalled seeing police in the area on Sunday afternoon. "I saw a lot of people go down so I had to have a look, but I couldn't see much," said the 75-year-old.

"I just saw police there. You get a lot of crime here but it's out of the ordinary for a cordon to be there for this long." Anyone with any knowledge of what happened, or CCTV footage is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 495 of 14 May 2023, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
