One in four people in the UK will not be able to afford their gas and electricity bills when the energy price cap rises in October, according to new research.

Citizens Advice said 13 million people across Britain would be pushed into debt when annual energy bills are allowed to rocket to £3,600 in the autumn – double the number of people already in the red.
