BENGALURU: Eleven men from Kerala have been arrested by Bengaluru Rural police for allegedly mugging a group of private finance firm employees and fleeing with Rs 1 crore cash from near Madanayakanahalli, off Tumakuru Road, on March 11.
Police sources said they are yet to trace some more persons, who are believed to have the loot. “As of now, we have arrested 11 people and are questioning them. The prime suspects are still at large and we have sent special teams to Kerala to look for them,” a senior officer said.
The incident took place on M arch 11 morning when five employees of the finance firm in Nagercoil, near Kanyakumari, were driving near NICE Road junction at Madanayakanahalli. They were on their way back to Nagercoil in a four-wheeler after visiting Hubballi and other places on March 8 to collect mone y from customers. When they reached the outskirts of Madanayakanahalli at 5. 50am with Rs 1 crore kept in a bag, a gang of armed men arrived in a car and attacked them.
J Franklin, the firm’s senior accountant, stated in his complaint: “The miscreants attacked our car with machetes and smashed the glasses. Pulling us out, they snatched the cash and our mobile phones. They d rove away with their car as well as ours. ”
An investigating officer said the arrested men are habitual offenders facing similar robbery charges in Kerala and other places. Most of them have at least 20 cases against them.
“The gang was aware that Franklin and the others were carrying Rs 1 crore cash with them. When we nab the prime suspect, we will come to know how they got to know of the cash,” the officer said.
