At least 20 people have been confirmed dead in the predawn disaster in southwestern Yunnan, with dozens missing.

The disaster struck in the early morning in the village of Liangshui in the northeastern part of Yunnan province. Rescue efforts were underway to find victims buried in houses, officials said.
