Cryptocurrency markets endured heavy losses on Thursday, with bitcoin near a two-year low as investors fretted about the fallout from the implosion of FTX, the world’s second-largest crypto exchange.

Voyager had snubbed an earlier offer from FTX to purchase its assets, describing the proposal as a ‘low-ball bid dressed up as a white knight rescue.’

Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in the world, was created in 2009 during the depths of the great financial crisis. It took a while to gain traction, but it, along with other cryptocurrencies, has since exploded into a major market worth around $1 trillion.
