The Latest Breaking News from the Texas House

As of Oct. 15, Ballotpedia has tracked 193 election-related bills in the Texas House of Representatives since the beginning of the year. Of the 193, Ballotpedia tracked two from Oct. 9-15. Democrats sponsored one, while Republicans sponsored the other. The two bills are below:   

The Senate also approved Senate Bill 2, which would infuse $5.2 billion to school districts to help them with teacher raises and rising costs. Gov. Greg Abbott said he would add those items to the special session’s agenda once lawmakers approve a voucher program.

Ballotpedia tracked three new state-level candidates in Texas between Oct. 2 and Oct. 8. This was equal to the number of candidates tracked last week.

House Speaker Dade Phelan called on Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and other officials to redirect any money they received from the PAC. Patrick called on Phelan to resign.

The Texas Tribune also observed Texas GOP chair Matt Rinaldi outside the building, but he denied meeting Fuentes and denounced him.

Paxton’s far-right supporters doubled down on their promises for swift retribution against fellow Republicans who supported his removal from office.

On the first day of the impeachment trial, senators rejected defense attorneys’ attempts to dismiss all 16 articles of impeachment. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick also ruled that Ken Paxton couldn’t be forced to testify.

The articles — including bribery, dereliction of duty and disregard of official duty — do not include four accusations originally adopted by the Texas House.

The legislation comes after a bill to decriminalize the test strips passed the Texas House but died in the Senate despite support from Gov. Greg Abbott.
