The Patna High Court’s August 1 judgment, upholding the Bihar government’s decision to conduct a caste-based survey in the State, is likely to boost the political fortunes of ruling coalition parties such as the Janata Dal (United) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, both of which claim to represent marginalised communities

Bihar’s caste-based survey is being conducted at a cost of ₹500 crore, approved by the Cabinet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

A day after the Patna High Court held the caste survey in Bihar as “valid” and “legal”, the State government suspended all ongoing training programmes for teachers so that they can be engaged for early completion of the exercise.
