Emmanuel Macron urges EU to activate its powerful anti-coercion instrument for the first time as Trump threatens escalating tariffs on eight European nations over Greenland.

Geoeconomic tensions are pushing supporters of the EU-Mercosur trade deal to press for a swift ratification. But the agreement risks inflaming euroscepticism, particularly in France, where most political forces oppose it.

A statement adopted by the European Parliament’s political leaders expressed "unequivocal support to Greenland and Denmark" and criticised the US's stated aim of taking control of the Danish territory.

The EU-Mercosur trade agreement cannot be implemented without the approval of MEPs, who are set to vote next week on a legal challenge against it.
