The states which fielded the highest number of turncoats have seen most of them trail behind – 14 of 19 in Telangana, 15 of 25 in Uttar Pradesh,  and 10 of 19 in Maharashtra.

Of the 15 turncoats contesting in phase five of the Lok Sabha polls, eight are in the BJP-led NDA and six in the INDIA bloc.

The ruling tripartite ‘Mahayuti’ parties bested the Opposition three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the Maharashtra gram panchayat (GP) polls, with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday stating that the results were clear proof of the faith displayed by the State’s electorate in the ruling government.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that some parts of the State had received average rainfall of 15 to 20 days in a matter of just two to three days.
