Some will not be able to buy their children a present and others will keep warm in public buildings, a survey found

People are planning to use items from food banks for their festive meal, according to a survey for the Salvation Army.

The charitable organization said the red kettle was stolen from a post near State and Randolph streets and that the stolen donations would have funded programs such as rental and utility assistance, homeless services, food pantries, Christmas meal boxes and toys for children.

The sit-down meal for 700 was the first the Salvation Army has offered in-house since the start of the pandemic. Another 2,300 to-go meals, prepared by Levy Restaurants, were also distributed.
