McElrea jumped out to the early lead and began gapping the field to a 2.7s lead around the 11-turn, 2.238-mile natural terrain road course after the opening two of 35 laps.  

After being delayed from its afternoon start time to 9:50pm under the floodlights in the evening due to rain, Rasmussen led the 15-car field to green in the 75-lap race as the field was set by points order for the final oval race of the season.

But his victory was tinged by controversy when he collided with Andretti Autosport team-mate Louis Foster as they duelled for the lead with eight laps to go, which forced the British driver out.
