FORT WORTH, Texas — Not long after UCLA and USC announced their intentions to join the Big Ten, Pac-12 officials immediately began to quietly gauge the interest of others schools if they were interested in heading west to join that league.

Ten schools will remain in the Power Five conference after USC and UCLA leave for the Big Ten.

This week’s announcement was understandable given the state of college football TV contracts and the SEC’s own bold move last summer.

The move, planned for 2024, would make the Big Ten the first college athletics conference to stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
