Peruvian authorities on Monday declared a day of mourning with flags to fly at half mast on government buildings following the death of the Nobel literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa.

Llosa was a prolific author and essayist with several celebrated novels including “The Time of the Hero” (La Ciudad y los Perros) and “Feast of the Goat.” He also won myriad awards, including the 2010 Nobel Prize for Literature.
