CHICAGO — After Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot downplayed her administration’s slow implementation of police reforms during a speech in 2020, a lawyer for the Illinois attorney general responded in court by criticizing the city’s handling of the consent decree.

"The judge has created a tremendous amount of confusion, even in the way she wrote her decision," Gov. J.B. Pritzker said. But Republican challenger Gary Rabine argued, "This chaos is the sole responsibility of failed Governor, J.B. Pritzker."

CHICAGO — A judge’s recent ruling that Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s COVID-19 mask mandate was authorized illegally prompted chaos and confusion Monday morning at school districts across Illinois, as increasingly volatile battles over virus mitigation strategies further divided communities and forced some schools to cancel classes.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s $45.8 billion budget now goes to the Legislature, which should protect the responsible parts of the spending plan.

The Illinois Attorney General’s office has already filed an emergency stay aiming to pause the temporary restraining order suspending mask mandates.

CHICAGO — Thousands of students at scores of school districts across the state may no longer be required to wear a mask in the classroom, with an Illinois judge ruling Friday that Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s COVID-19 mandate was authorized illegally.

Under Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge Raylene Grischow’s temporary restraining order, several other COVID-19 mitigation measures enacted by Gov. J.B. Pritzker were deemed "null and void."
