Al Jazeera Arabic reporter Ismail al-Ghoul and cameraman Rami al-Rifi were killed on Wednesday as an Israeli air strike hit their car in the Shati refugee camp on Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported. The media outlet called it a “targeted assassination”.

Israel’s apparent assassinations of Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah’s top military leader, in Beirut, and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, have raised again the specter of a regional war involving regional adversaries – one that could potentially drag the United States into the fray.

Ismail Haniyeh, one of the chief operatives of Hamas, has been killed at age 62 in Iran. Haniyeh had been a critical member of Hamas, having led the group through elections and prior conflict with Israel.
