President Biden Holds Hamas Responsible For Hostage Deaths

President Biden has reiterated his stance that Hamas is responsible for the tragic deaths of American-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages. A US official confirmed this statement on Monday, emphasizing that Hamas leaders will be held accountable for their actions. The President has also urged the Israeli government to act swiftly in securing the release of the remaining hostages.

Earlier on Monday, President Biden expressed his concern that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not exerting enough effort to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. He indicated that progress was being made towards presenting a final proposal to negotiators working on a potential hostage and ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

As the President returned to the White House to confer with American officials involved in the negotiations, he highlighted the urgency of reaching a deal that would involve the release of hostages alongside a cessation of hostilities.

In response to Biden's comments, a senior Israeli source criticized the focus on Netanyahu's efforts, pointing out that the Prime Minister had previously agreed to proposals put forth by the US. The source emphasized that Hamas leader Sinwar, who has been resistant to any deal, should also face pressure in the negotiations.

The ongoing discussions between the US, Israel, and Hamas underscore the complex dynamics at play in the efforts to secure the release of hostages and achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. President Biden's call for accountability and urgency reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for all parties to work towards a peaceful resolution.
