Five people in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles have been sickened with flea-borne typhus this year, and every one of them was hospitalized. All five have recovered.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced the localized outbreak on Wednesday, reported through City News Service, and said the cluster comes as cases continue to rise across the county. The hospitalization pattern is the part worth pausing on. This is not a cluster where a handful of people felt unwell for a few days.
