WASHINGTON — A Senate panel met Tuesday morning to hear from a trio of expert witnesses about what the federal government can do to create safeguards for digital assets such as cryptocurrency.

Recent enforcement actions constitute the clearest warning yet.

“If you buy crypto assets and the price goes to zero at some point, please don’t be surprised,” Fed Governor Christopher Waller said Friday.

Gary Gensler’s move against staking is likely to push more crypto activity offshore or to decentralized platforms.

The settlement marks the regulator's first crackdown on staking, a common service offered at both centralised and decentralised crypto exchanges, including most of the major exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance.
