Paris (AFP) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday defiantly vowed to push through a controversial pensions reform, saying he was prepared to accept unpopularity in the face of sometimes violent protests.

There have been 1,200 unauthorised demonstrations in France since last Thursday, "some of them violent", according to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin. There have been hundreds of arrests.
