France will deploy about 70,000 police nationwide and some of Paris' major museums will close Saturday as the country braces for a fresh wave of protests after looting and unrest erupted on the sidelines of demonstrations a week ago. Protests by high school students over learning conditions sparked a movement that has since spread nationwide, fuelled by broader anger over the rising cost of living.

Major museums in Paris closed and authorities deployed a sizable police force for a round of new protests Saturday across France, hoping to prevent a repeat of last week’s violent unrest that shocked the country.
