Human rights groups and civilians say another wave of deadly attacks has hit West Darfur’s capital, el-Geneina.

Armed conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has escalated following an outbreak of violence in April 2023. There is intensive fighting in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, neighbouring Omdurman and elsewhere, including Darfur.

The US believes there is little chance of a ceasefire in Sudan as neither side has an incentive to stop warring. 

Gunfire and explosions could be heard in Khartoum for a 20th straight day on Thursday after the latest ceasefire expired on Wednesday.
