Eminent agriculture scientist and Father of Green Revolution in India M.S. Swaminathan had worked with Karnataka government in various capacities. He was a frequent visitor to Bengaluru where he took part in agriculture-related engagements and delivered lectures.

M.S. Swaminathan remembered as visionary scientist, administrator; his contributions to India's agriculture sector include developing high-yielding Basmati rice, innovatively using mutation technology, genetics for production and food security, and launching programmes. His legacy of nutritional quality, bio fortification, precision farming, and Central Institute for Women in Agriculture will be remembered.

M.S. Swaminathan's contributions to farming, esp. in Wayanad, are remarkable. He set up CAbC to conserve vanishing plant species & propel agri revolution. Now a 46-acre campus, it has state-of-the-art facilities & a team of 48 people to conserve biodiversity & promote sustainable dev. of farming community.

His soft spot for the ‘rice bowl’ prompted M.S. Swaminathan, a Mankombu native, to take up extensive research in the region and come up ₹1,840-cr. package.
