Zendaya Opens Up About Her Struggles Filming On Euphoria Set: ‘Really Tough Days’

Zendaya‘s spilling the tea on what it’s really like to play Rue Bennett, and spoiler alert: it’s not exactly a walk in the park.

In a recent Variety Actors on Actors interview, Zendaya dropped some truth bombs about the emotional rollercoaster that is filming Euphoria. Turns out, playing a drug-addicted teen isn’t all glitter and bike rides. Who would’ve thought?

“I still have my Rue scars,” Zendaya confessed, and we’re not talking about the emotional kind. Girl’s got actual battle wounds from her time on set that she pointed to.

Zendaya has found a way to cope with the intense scenes:”I do know that I like to have fun on my job. I don’t want to be miserable just because the character’s miserable.”

She explained, “On Euphoria, we’d have really, really tough days. I’m like, ‘OK, gotta go cry and knock down a door real quick,’ and then I’ll come back like, ‘Hey, Cheesecake Factory? What are we getting for lunch?’ I try my best to leave them at work and go home and live my life and be a person.”

Honestly, if Zendaya can go from smashing doors to smashing cheesecake, she deserves all the awards. Give her an Emmy for compartmentalisation.

The show’s about to start filming its third season, but it doesn’t seem the star is super stoked to get into production.

“We’re supposed to do another season,” Zendaya said.

“I’ve only done two, but it feels like five. One season of Euphoria is like, ‘Phew’!”

Zendaya is not the only one who’s expressed how hard the Euphoria set can be. Reports came out after Season 2 of the show claiming that the set was a “toxic workplace” where actors and crew weren’t given meals on time and weren’t allowed to go for bathroom breaks.

The report by The Daily Beast claimed that the work conditions were so bad that “people began dropping like flies”.

However, Euphoria‘s Colman Domingo, who plays recovering addict Ali Muhammad on the show, came out to deny any such claims.

“I’m not gonna invalidate [anyone’s] experience. But working in television is long hours,” Domingo told The Independent.

“Sometimes you work up to 14 hours a day. And then you have to go home and prep. You have to really live and work in a very methodical way. A lot of young actors may not be up for the task, or have that same work ethic.”

With all this talk of exhaustion and emotional toll, I’m glad that Season 3 is predicted to be Euphoria‘s last hurrah. Let these poor actors rest, for crying out loud!

HBO’s big boss Casey Bloys has confirmed that Season 3 will start production in January 2025.

As for when we’ll actually get to see it? We’re looking at a release date somewhere in 2026. I know that seems like forever away, but in the mean time you can check out all the other info we know about Euphoria Season 3 right here while you wait for HBO to hurry the fuck up.
