Zendaya and Tom Holland engagement rumours rife as couple get 'serious and permanent'

Zendaya and Tom Holland are reportedly engaged, according to fans on Twitter.

For some reason, fans are really going wild for the Hollywood couple, who met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2016.

Both trending on the social media platform, Pop Hive, which boasts more than 160,000 followers, seemed to start spiralling rumours.

They Tweeted: "Tom Holland and Zendaya are reportedly engaged!" - attaching a photo of the adorable couple in their now-viral post.

"Tom is gonna be Mr. Zendaya now," replied one excited fan on the post which has now had more than 200,000 'likes' and 30,000 Retweets.

"This is great news. So happy for them," replied another to the entirely unconfirmed news. "Wow such amazing news," Tweeted another.

It's not unlikely given the pair have reportedly grown increasingly closer recently, with one source claiming they are getting "serious and permanent".

"They’re both in settling-down mode and are absolutely planning for a real future together," the insider told Us Weekly of Tom, who portrayed Peter Parker, and Zendaya, who played Michelle Jones, aka MJ, in recent Spiderman movies.

The Mirror has contacted representatives for both Tom and Zendaya for a comment.

Another follower, who doesn't believe the rumours, Tweeted: "Not that I believe this, but Tom and Zendaya are the type to get engaged, married, and not acknowledge anything until their 5-year anniversary."

The potential positive news comes after Tom announced he was taking a break from social media for the sake of his mental health.

Addressing fans in a Instagram video, Tom revealed that he has also deleted Twitter from his phone after it became "detrimental to his mental state".

He said in the clip: "Hi guys. So I've been trying to make this video for about an hour now, and for someone that has spent that last 13, 14 years, however long I've been acting…

"I cannot seem to say what I need to say without 'um-ing' and 'ah-ing' every five minutes, so I'm gonna try again.

"I have taken a break from social media for my mental health, because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming.

"I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately, it's very detrimental to my mental state, so I decided to take a step back and delete the app."
