Zay Jones: ‘I don’t think we’re going to take an 8-hour plane ride to lose’

The Jacksonville Jaguars have lost four straight to turn a promising 2-1 start to the year into a troubling 2-5 record near the halfway point of the 2022 season. But receiver Zay Jones isn’t quite ready to say the team is “desperate” for a win in London this Sunday.

“I don’t think desperate’s the word — more hungry,” Jones told 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien on Wednesday. “I’m sure [the Denver Broncos] organization wants one as well. It’s still the NFL. A lot of teams’ records don’t quite reflect who they are. Unfortunately for us, in this situation, that’s what matters though, is the win column. And we know that.

“I’m looking forward to going there [to London]. I know this team expects to win. Our coaches expect to win. I don’t think we’re going to take an eight-hour plane ride to lose, you know what I’m saying?”

While the Jaguars haven’t won a game yet in October, neither have the Broncos. Jacksonville’s Week 8 opponent is on a matching four-game losing streak that similarly spoiled a 2-1 start to Denver’s season.

The Jaguars are currently listed as a 2.5-point favorite over the Broncos for the game set to be played at Wembley Stadium. It’s the ninth time the Jaguars have played a game in London with the team posting a 4-4 record in its first eight. The Broncos have only played once overseas, losing a 2010 game to the San Francisco 49ers, 24-16.

Jones, who joined the Jaguars as a free agent in the offseason, said he has never made the transatlantic flight before. In six games with Jacksonville, he has caught 31 passes for 281 yards with one touchdown.
