Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah has been encouraged to sign for Liverpool in the January transfer window following reported interest from the Reds.
The 20-year-old impressed for the United States during the 2022 World Cup before they crashed out in the last 16, with some of Europe’s elite now taking a strong interest in securing his services next month as a result.
Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs who have taken a keen interest in signing the midfielder and US soccer legend Eric Wynalda believes it would be a ‘great move’ for both parties if Musah decides to join the Reds in January.
Speaking to the VegasInsider Podcast, the former all-time leading goal scorer for the USMNT said: “He’s getting a lot of attention from the EPL and it looks like Liverpool are interested from the sources I’ve spoken to.”
He added: “Keita came to Liverpool and is a similar profile to Musah. It didn’t quite work out for him and Klopp. Klopp is looking at Musah in the same light.
“He’s maybe a poor man’s Wijnaldum but Thiago isn’t getting any younger. Musah is a great young talent and I think Liverpool would be a great move.”

Along with Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat and Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez, Musah is one of the names to have been mentioned in the same breath as Liverpool since the start of the World Cup in Qatar as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield next year.
On December 6, three days after the USA were knocked out of the World Cup with a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in the last 16, 90min reported that both Chelsea and Liverpool had made contact with Musah's representatives to register their interest in a transfer.
The report also stated that Valencia had opened contract talks with Musah in an attempt to fend off mounting interest from the Premier League as a result, looking to extend his current deal which runs until 2026 and includes a release clause of €100million (£87.4million).
And amid all the reported interest, The Athletic revealed last week that the 20-year-old is ‘keen on experiencing a new challenge’ after spending the last three-and-a-half years in La Liga.
As a result, Valencia are now coming to the idea that they may have to sell one of their star assets and will be open to listening to offers, with the Spanish outfit setting their asking price for Musah at around €20m (£17m).
With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all likely to leave next year, Liverpool are planning ahead with a number of signings and Musah could be the one to kick things off if the Reds can beat competition from elsewhere to sign him on a bargain deal next month.
