Your favourite places in Greater Manchester to enjoy the sunshine as temperatures soar

It’s going to be another warm and sunny weekend in Greater Manchester. And what better way to spend it than going for a walk with family and friends, enjoying a few drinks in a beer garden or kicking back in your own back yard?

Temperatures are set to reach highs of 19C across the region on Saturday, according to the Met Office. It will remain dry and clear this evening, with the sun making another appearance on Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach 17C.

People up and down the UK have enjoyed a mini heatwave this week – basking in temperatures warmer than Spanish hotspots Marbella and Lanzarote on Thursday as the mercury hold strong again today.

The warm weather this week is the result of a high-pressure system that has moved in from the east and is now settled on the country for the next few days. However, by Tuesday things will become unsettled as a cold air mass will push itself north across the UK.

We asked our readers for the best places to go in Greater Manchester to enjoy the sunshine – and you came back with some brilliant suggestions.

Sarah Hodgkinson said: “A walk through Fletcher Moss and the Parsonage Gardens, along Stenner Lane and back for lunch at the Didsbury.” Ryan Blakeley added: “BOWLERS TODAY FOR Manchester Adored.” Davina Brown said: “Heaton Park.”

Sharron Bergman said: “Etherow Country Park.”

Jake Cheshire said: “Airport Pub, Manchester Airport.”

Christine Hughes added: “Worsley walk along the Bridgewater Canal.”

More unsettled and cooler weather is expected from the middle of next week. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen said: “Although the UK has had a good deal of fine and settled March weather in recent days, a change is on the way from the middle of next week with colder air spreading down from the north and the increasing likelihood of rain for most areas.

"On the hills in the north, there’s a chance of this falling as snow, although we’ll gain more certainty on that in the coming days. With the influence of some unsettled weather, we’ll be seeing a marked drop in temperatures for most with colder air arriving from the north. This will see maximum temperatures drop into single figures for many areas, and below freezing overnight.”
