The form never has a box for them
Hospital admission forms ask for a relative. Emergency contacts at the office ask for a relative. The lease wants a guarantor, and the guarantor should ideally be family. In Indian law, family is a narrow word, parents, siblings, a spouse, children. The friend who drove you to the hospital at midnight, who sat in the corridor for four hours, who lied to your landlord that she was your cousin so they'd let her take your key, she has no standing in any of those documents. She is, officially, nobody.
