A woman in her 20s fell from a night club balcony in Merseyside and is fighting for her life in hospital.
Police were called to Hey Amigos night club in West Street, Southport at 2.55am today (Sunday, September 4), to reports that a woman had fallen from the balcony.
An ambulance rushed her to hospital, where she was said to be in a "critical condition", the Liverpool Echo reports.
One person told the Echo that the nightclub was emptied at around 3am and that they believed the incident had taken place in the smoking area of the venue.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the Echo: "We were called to reports over concern for safety at around 2.55am after a woman fell from a balcony.
"A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital where she is in a critical condition. Officers remain at the scene and we're not looking for anyone in connection to the incident."
Hey Amigos declined to comment.
The incident comes after in May this year, a British tourist died in Magaluf after reportedly falling off a balcony on the seventh floor of a hotel in Majorca.
The incident happened around 8.30am on Thursday at four-star Melia South Beach Hotel on Notari Alemany, Calvià.
The 33-year-old man was staying at the hotel with a family member, it was understood and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Reports suggest the man might have been trying to balance on the rails of the hotel and slipped.
He fell more than 15-metres.
Meanwhile, in July an Irish tourist was rushed to hospital after plunging from a hotel in Majorca.
The 20-year-old man was said to be found with “serious” head injuries and taken to Son Espases Hospital after falling from the third floor of the four-star TRH Jardin del Mar Beach Hotel.
The alarm was raised just after 4.30am that morning in the party resort of Santa Ponsa.
Emergency responders found the injured tourist at the back of the hotel in a gap between the hotel building and a small wall.
