Young Edinburgh student's 'stomach strain' turned out to be huge cancer tumour

A medical student at the Edinburgh was 'shocked' when doctors told her she had cancer, after visiting A&E with what she thought was a muscle strain.

Elena Espinosa Cabrera, who was just 17 when she was diagnosed, went to the emergency room with a pain in her abdomen. Doctors soon told her she had a 14cm cyst wrapped around her fallopian tube.

Currently training to be a doctor, Elena said her diagnosis has only made her 'more determined'. After nine rounds of chemotherapy, she is not yet considered to be in remission though the cancer has now been classed as 'inactive'.
