Young Celtic fan dies suddenly as heartbroken mum in plea for Old Firm applause

The heartbroken mum of a young Celtic fan who died suddenly has asked football supporters to get behind a one-minute applause in his memory during the Old Firm.

Leon Brown, 14, from Cumbernauld, passed away on Thursday August 25, leaving his mum Lauryn Keating and loved ones devastated.

Tributes have poured in for the popular Our Ladies High School pupil, after his mum took to social media to announce the shocking news.

She wrote: "This morning my whole world came crashing down around me. The love of my life, my best friend, my son Leon passed away during the night.

"Leon Brown I have never felt heartbreak like this before, I love you so much that you’ll ever get to know and will never stop missing you my little angel boy."

The youngster was described as a "kind, thoughtful and loved wee lad" by friends and family.

Lauryn has now asked football fans to get behind a round of applause for Celtic fan Leon, during the 14th minute of the Old Firm match on Saturday so he will be "14 forever".

She said: "We have arranged a clap for Leon on the 14th minute of the game on Saturday.

"Liel Abada will be wearing a t-shirt with Leon’s picture underneath his top on the day. He is also going to get a Celtic top into Parkhead for the team to sign.

"We have arranged for Leon's picture to be shown during the game with a wee message on the big screen.

"Forever 14."

Lauryn is also desperate to get her hands on tickets for the game, so she can be there in person for the memorial applause.

She added: "It would be amazing and a really special moment to go to the game. There have been a lot of people trying to contact Celtic but we've had no luck.

"If me, and my parents could be there in person, we wouldn't even care if we had to sit on the Rangers side, as long as we got to see his tribute."

Loved ones have created a fundraiser to support Leon's family. To donate click here.
