In exciting news for fans of the iconic 'Karate Kid' franchise, a new installment is in the works, and the young and talented Ben Wang has been chosen to play the lead role. After an extensive global search, Wang emerged as the perfect fit for this highly sought-after opportunity, beating out thousands of other young actors from around the world.

Previously known for his role opposite Michelle Yeoh in Disney+'s series 'American Born Chinese,' Ben Wang impressed studio insiders with his exceptional audition performance, showcasing a deep connection to the character. Wang's fluency in Mandarin and his proficiency in various martial arts forms, including Karate, Wing Chun/Kung Fu, Gumdo, Kempo, and Taekwando, further enhanced his suitability for the role.

Working alongside the legendary Jackie Chan and the beloved original 'Karate Kid' star Ralph Macchio, Wang has big shoes to fill but undoubtedly has the talent and potential to make his mark in this franchise. This exciting project will see Macchio once again portraying Daniel LaRusso, the character he immortalized in the original 'Karate Kid' film trilogy and the hit series 'Cobra Kai.' Chan, on the other hand, will reprise his role as Mr. Han, a Kung Fu master from the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith.

However, the involvement of talented director Jonathan Entwistle, known for creating and directing Netflix's 'I Am Not Okay With This' and 'The End of the F—ing World,' promises an exciting and fresh vision for the franchise.

Adding to the creative team, screenwriter Rob Lieber, known for his work on 'Peter Rabbit,' is on board to craft an engaging and compelling screenplay, while producer Karen Rosenfelt will ensure a seamless and successful production.

Mark your calendars, as Sony Pictures has set the release date for this thrilling new chapter in the 'Karate Kid' saga on December 13, 2024. This announcement comes in recognition of the tremendous success the franchise has achieved, with a global box office revenue of $618 million and the critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated Netflix series 'Cobra Kai.'

Created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, 'Cobra Kai' breathes new life into the story, picking up the narrative decades after the events of the original films. The intense rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, portrayed by William Zabka, has captivated audiences and reignited their passion for the 'Karate Kid' universe.
